International Year of the Periodic Table
The International Year of the Periodic Table, declared by UNESCO, was celebrated around the world in 2019. The DEQ, representing the Instituto Superior Técnico, joined in these celebrations with various activities throughout the year, designed to have a high impact on the general public.
January 29, 2019 was the date chosen for the official opening of the International Year of the Periodic Table.

The DEQ went to various schools to form the Human Periodic Table with primary and secondary school students.
In February 2019, the DEQ established a partnership with the Lisbon Metro to carry out a series of activities to publicize the International Year of the Periodic Table and our department. Various activities were held throughout the year in metro stations and carriages with the aim of spreading the word about the periodic table to the general public.
The "Night of the Periodic Table" event organized by DEQ and the Chemical Engineering Student Group (NEQIST) took place on 6 March 2019. The program included lectures, demonstrations, quizzes and games about the periodic table.
