The Department of Chemical Engineering (DEQ) is a department of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) under the terms of Annex I of the IST Statutes, published in the Diário da República on 25 September 2013.

The DEQ's aim is to carry out teaching, undergraduate, master's and postgraduate activities, fundamental and applied scientific research, development and the provision of other services to the outside world, in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering and Chemistry, namely in the areas of the chemical, biochemical, food and pharmaceutical industries and at the interface with the areas of management, materials, the environment, energy and health, for the sustainable development of man and society.o, materiais, ambiente, energia e sáude, para o desenvolvimento sustentável do homem e da sociedade.
