Historical Collection
The 'Chemical-Industrial' Engineering major was one of the 5 engineering majors created with the IST in 1911. Among the various distinguished people of the first decades of Chemical Engineering in IST, professor Charles Lepierre taught in the institution from 1911 to 1919, as well as Herculano de Carvalho, whose main research subject was analytical chemistry, although both developed research in other subjects which led to the establishment of the Analytical and Physical Chemistry areas of the Institute through Fraústo da Silva and Jorge Calado, and Organic Chemistry through Peres de Carvalho, Pierre Laurent and Bernardo Herold.
In the technological courses, a special mention must be given to João Lopes Raimundo and Luiz de Almeida Alves, who retired in 1990 and whose work was further developed by Joaquim Barbosa Romero Tavares da Silva, Farinha Portela, Barbosa de Sousa and Aquiles Gomes. The work developed by these professors and researches yielded a substantial collection of objects, considered as an important historical collection worth preserving.
Currently, this patrimony is being studied by António Conceição and Dulce Simão, who prepared the following documents:
